Since he entered the GOP contest, most pundits and GOP insiders have treated Trump as a sometimes humorous -- sometimes infuriating -- distraction from the real race for the Republican nomination. Now they are beginning to wake up to the fact that Trump is not going away. He is, in fact, a real contender for the nomination. There is no reason whatsoever to believe that a significant portion of his voters will "come to their senses" and withdraw their support from Trump. ...

A message to the out-of-touch Washington pundit class: get a grip. What was or was not on Hillary Clinton's email server when she was Secretary of State is not a game-changing news story. In fact, no one outside the chattering class -- and right-wing true believers -- could give a rat's rear about this story -- and there is a good reason: there is no "there" there. If someone really thinks the great "email" story -- or the Benghazi investigation -- are going to sink her candidacy, I've got a bridge to sell them. ...

Here's the latest Huff Post piece by Democracy Partner, Bob Creamer.   Many of the same people who rushed America to war with Iraq are now engaged in a no-holds-barred campaign to convince a small group of House and Senate Democrats that they should vote to kill President Obama's Iran nuclear agreement when Congress returns in September. ...

The advocacy group Progressive Change Campaign Committee, was intended to train candidates and activists from states far flung as Wisconsin and Louisiana to run for office and eventually shape national policy. TIME was one of the only publications granted access to the meeting. Democracy Partner, Joel Silberman was one of the trainers at the event. ...

We are fast approaching another "Iraq War Moment." A vote to prevent President Obama from implementing the just-announced agreement that prevents Iran from getting a nuclear weapon will result in one of only two outcomes: a nuclear Iran, or another major U.S. war in the Middle East. ...

Modern conservatism has slipped from its moral base of protecting traditional small-town and community values, and has gotten so enamored of big-business capitalism, even at its most ruthless, that it no longer cares about those community-minded folks it claims to represent. ...

There are obstacles in the road. But fundamentally, we have arrived at a potentially progressive moment in America -- a moment when a true progressive consensus has begun to form in the Democratic Party and among the voters. If we take advantage of that moment, we could look back at 2016 not as some showdown between wings of the Democratic coalition, but as a progressive tipping point in American history. ...

Why Aren’t We Standing Up Against the Assault on Women’s Rights? I’m ready to have gay rights organizations, the media and corporations, such as Walmart, Google, NASCAR and Angie’s List, be as moved to action by Purvi Patel’s 20-year incarceration as they—and I—are about the refusal of a baker to make a wedding cake for same-sex celebrations. ...

This week the Senate Foreign Relations Committee takes up a bill sponsored by Senators Corker and Menendez that would give the GOP-controlled Congress veto power over recently-concluded Framework Agreement that would prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. The bill sounds reasonable enough. Its backers say it is only intended to give Congress the ability to sign off on the final agreement. In fact, it represents a last-ditch effort by the same Neo-Con crowd that brought us the disastrous Iraq War to delay and then kill the deal. ...

With the current spats between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the White House over Iran dominating the headlines and speculation about the Israeli elections that will occur on Tuesday, it was easy to miss two small news items from Israel. One reported Israel’s allocation of $46 million to encourage European immigration. The other, buried in the middle of a report on Netanyahu’s visit – reported that “as a gesture of good will” toward President Obama, after nine-years of refusal, Netanyahu had agreed to grant the newly-built Palestinian city of Rawabi access to water. ...

One of the reasons I supported Barack Obama for President in 2008 was his pledge to end the War in Iraq. I have been a vocal opponent of that War since George Bush proposed the invasion in 2002. I strongly believe that the actions President Obama announced in Iraq last night deserve progressive support. ...

The organization I chair, American Family Voices, is working on a video about the rising populist progressive movement in America, and we did an interview for it with a mentor and dear friend of mine, Heather Booth. Heather, who was down in Mississippi 50 years ago this summer for Freedom Summer, spoke in the interview of the question civil rights organizers used to ask of activists: "Are you willing to die for freedom?" And they were. ...

The ability for ordinary working people to organize and collectively bargain over their wages and working conditions is a fundamental human right. It is a right just as critical to a democratic society as the right to free speech and the right to vote.  Over the last 30 years many in corporate America and the big Wall Street banks have conducted a sustained attack on that human right. Unionization dropped from 20.1 percent of the workforce in 1983 to 11. 3 percent in 2013 -- and the results are there for everyone to see. ...

It takes completely brazen chutzpah for Neo-Con Republicans like John McCain to criticize President Obama's policies in Iraq -- especially as Iraq once again falls into sectarian civil war. These are precisely the people who kicked open the sectarian hornets' nest in 2003 when they invaded Iraq and unleashed years of civil war that led to hundreds of thousands of deaths and millions of refugees. Of course the current Iraqi government bears a great deal of the responsibility for the current breakdown in security. As Fareed Zakaria wrote in Friday's Washington Post: ...

When I was a kid growing up in Chicago in the 1970s, my two white parents told their two adopted black children that the only words we should ever utter if stopped by Chicago Police were “yes, sir.’’ This was not out of some insidious desire to raise black men who “knew their place.’’ Instead, it was a defense mechanism - a precautionary measure to the very real danger that the slightest bit of expressed indignation, even if legitimate, could result in being physically assaulted or worse, if you encountered the wrong police officer. ...
